Soulmate is listed as a mystery and stars Anna Walton, Tom Wisdom, Tanya Myers, Nick Brimble, and Emma Cleasby. The story is about Audrey, played by Anna Walton, who recently lost her husband in a car accident. She is grieving over his loss and tries to kill herself and fails, so in an attempt to cope with her grief she leaves everything behind and rents a cottage in Whales. During her stay at the cottage she keeps having visions of her deceased husband and hears voices.
This film seemed interesting and different from the majority of movies available. At first glance the movie is about a haunted cottage but then you find out that the deceased, previous owner has something in common with Audrey… The previous owner committed suicide.
This is a film from the UK, thus I was not familiar with anyone from the cast list. The actors all did well portraying believable characters though and the make-up artist did an amazing job on the make-up for the ghost character Douglas. It was such a thorough job that it is difficult to recognize the actor.
The special effects, lighting, and setting were well put together to create an eerie look. Every last detail was creepy and even the dog’s name in the movie was Anubis (who was the protector of the dead in ancient Egypt).
There is an unexpected and morbid twist to this movie. The ghost falls in love with Audrey and wants her to kill herself to be with him. Audrey refuses, they battle and Audrey manages to get away.
Overall, this movie is worth viewing once for the originality of the story. I like that the film is set in the UK [and the accents]. Bear in mind that you definitely have to be in the mood for dealing with such dark and heavy themes of death and loss though.
