This film stars Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, Chris Lowell, and Tina Majorino. The story is about Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) who had decided to give up her love of being a private investigator to pursue a career as a lawyer. She interviews at a law firm but puts that part of her life on hold when a friend from her past asks for her help solving a murder case.
I wanted to see this film because of the actors included in it and because I also saw a few episodes of the television series. This being said, I will review this film independently from the television series since I have not seen enough episodes to complete a comparison.
I liked that the beginning of the movie gives a brief summary of the major events that took place during the series. There were a few pieces of the story like the high school reunion and characters that probably would have had more meaning to me if I had seen the complete series, but the film can still be enjoyed without that fact. The story is entertaining and full of edge-of-your-seat suspense; the chase scene in particular had my adrenaline pumping.
My favorite character is of course Veronica Mars as she is intelligent, witty, and tough. Kristen Bell does a wonderful job portraying this type of character. I liked the choices for the cast members and that they had appearances from Jamie Lee Curtis and Justin Long. Overall I found the characters likeable, believable, and easy to relate to.
One of my favorite scenes is when Veronica Mars punches the snobby, popular girl at the tenth year high school reunion. It was such a great scene and everyone can relate to wanting to go to their high school reunion and getting revenge on the snotty popular kids.
In the movie Veronica Mars is in a relationship with Piz and he was excited and hoping to introduce her to his parents, but sadly she lets him down to stay to solve the case. It works out better in the end because she seems to make a better pairing with her high school love, Logan. The only downfall to the pairing is that the writers have Logan in the military and he had to leave Veronica Mars for a while.
Overall, I enjoyed this film and recommend it for anyone who likes mysteries and crime stories. The movie has a good ending and one of the quotes I won’t forget is that we need to “accept the things we can’t change”.
